In March 1999, a group consisting of two members from each of the Nordic countries, Greenland and the Faroe Islands gathered to form the Nordic Telemedicine Association. Later on, representatives from the Åland Islands has also joined NTA. The main aim of the organization is to strengthen and expand telemedicine activity in and between member countries and to promote collaboration with the outside world. We aim toward collaboration with other telemedicine groups and organizations, especially the national ones within our member countries. We warmly thank the Nordic Council of Ministers (www.norden.org) as our economic sponsor during the start-up. The start-up proces of NTA is described in the report "Udbygning og styrkelse af det telemedicinske samarbejde i de nordiske og tilgrænsende områder" (Nordisk Ministerråd, DIVS 2000:820, København 2000). 15. April 2003, NTA was established as a legal oganization under Norwegian laws by the Brønnøysund Register Centre.
